In this project, straight lamellas were joined to form spatial grids that actively respond to elastic deformation, creating a spatially changeable support structure with minimal material usage.
The Kinetic Umbrella transitions from a 6.5 m high cylinder to an 8 m diameter umbrella. The structure, made of 32 GRP rods, is actuated by a pulling cable system. The goal was to design a cladding system that is adaptive to the form changes of the Kinetic Umbrella.

The final solution was a cord-based shading system made from customized flat cables that are elastic, UV-resistant, and seamlessly adapt to the moving structure.
