“Shadows of Equilibrium” is a collaborative project between the Specialist Modelling Group at Foster + Partners and the Chair of Structural Design at the Technical University of Munich.
The project features two suspended structures created using vector-based 3D graphic statics (VGS). The reciprocal relationship between the form and force diagrams allows for efficient and visually appealing designs. The structures have a diameter of 1.4 m, are made of anodized aluminium tubes, steel cables, and bespoke nodes, and are tensioned by tuning pins.
Both structures have been displayed in F+P’s London main office permanently.
